National White Cane Day is October 15. This special day commemorates the independence, achievements and positive contributions of vision-impaired and blind people. It’s meant to increase awareness of white canes, which indicate low vision, and what it signifies for users. Mesa County has several resources available to the vision-impaired. Aging and Disability Resources of Colorado has funding available for low vision aids. The Center for Independence has a support group for older individuals with blindness.
