Like you, I am constantly asked to donate. It can seem overwhelming at times as I ask myself, “How much should I give?”
In the Old Testament, those of Jewish faith were commanded to bring a tenth of their earnings to the temple storehouse. My cousin, a Buddhist, feels no compulsion to tithe but gives generously, as he believes that it will eventually come back to him with interest. Some devout capitalists I know see no reason to give at all.
As a Christian, I believe that Jesus spoke of the right amount to give when he spoke of the poor widow who placed her last few cents in the temple’s offering. Wow! Imagine giving all that you have to benefit another.
I have not done that. So until that day, the answer to “How much should I give?” is always “More.”
Create a Legacy
Please keep an open heart while reading
this special guide on donating your time and money. While there are many worthy causes in the area, I believe these organizations deserve your extra consideration. Read their stories thoughtfully, as they educate you about their mission, the people they serve and how you can volunteer your time or leave a financial legacy for future generations.
But I have no money
But you have time! Our community would grind to a halt were it not for the hours donated by our retired community. Everyone has something to contribute. Thanks for heeding the call to help others.
Vote for Volunteer of the Year
The volunteers featured this month have also answered that call and have been nominated for the BEACON’s 2018 Volunteer of the Year award by the organizations they volunteer for. These outstanding volunteers have gone above and beyond their day-to-day responsibilities to make a difference in the lives of others.
Make sure to vote for your favorite volunteer and find out who was named Volunteer of the Year
at BeaconFest on Thursday, April 19 at Two Rivers Convention Center.
