Caring Transitions takes the stress out of moving, downsizing

Jul 04, 2018 04:12AM ● By Melinda Mawdsley

Caring Transitions Owners Dave and Robbie Seng ease the stress of downsizing and moving by overseeing the process from start to finish.

“It was worth every penny.”

Whether that sentence was uttered with a sigh of relief or with a gracious smile, it’s the most common feedback Caring Transitions owners Robbie and Dave Seng receive from clients.

Caring Transitions seeks to ease the stress of downsizing, moving to a senior living facility, or hosting estate sales by overseeing the process from start to finish.

“In a nutshell, we are move managers,” Robbie said. “When people call us, it’s because they want to move…they generally know where they are going, but have no idea how to move.”

It can be daunting to anyone, particularly seniors with a lifetime of memories in each corner, to look in rooms and decide what to keep and what has to go, and then what to do with the stuff that won’t go with them.

To combat this stress, the Sengs greet every new client with a free consultation to learn what they want and let them know how they can help.

Not everyone needs or wants help packing—or unpacking, and not everyone has enough stuff for an estate sale.

The Caring Transitions team recently moved a woman in her 80s from one senior living facility to another because she required a different level of care. Her new space would be smaller and she would no longer cook for herself. Team members learned what she wanted to keep, what she hoped to keep, and the items she no longer needed, then they measured her new space to determine if the pieces she wanted to keep would fit.

“We worked with her and her daughter for several days before the move,” Robbie said. “We work really, really, really hard to make the next location look like the previous one.”

They took photos of how she had arranged her two 7-foot glass cabinets, so when items were unpacked, everything was put back exactly as it had been displayed.

Every client who uses Caring Transitions can expect that level of treatment, the Sengs said.

“If we move a desk, we will take a picture of the top of the desk,” Robbie said. “If it’s a mess, it’ll be the same mess” when they unpack.

Caring Transitions can also host estate sales and donate what doesn’t get sold, clean the house and even provide references for Realtors and other experts.

No matter what a client wants, whether it’s help decluttering or a full relocation, Caring Transitions will give the client a bid, then pay others involved in the process.

With over 200 franchises nationwide, Caring Transitions can help seniors move out of town or out of state as long as there is another franchise nearby. The Sengs will coordinate services with colleagues to make the transition as smooth as possible.

The company is fully insured, and the Sengs have earned their Certified Relocation and Transition Specialists certification. The local office’s 11 additional staff members have all undergone background checks.

“When we found this Caring Transitions opportunity we knew that was for us,” Robbie said.
