Medicare’s future might be scary, but...

It’s a big year for Medicare beneficiaries: new cards, new regulations and maybe new plans?

Medicare’s future might be scary, but don’t let the idea of making changes to your plan spook you. Even if you’re happy with your current Medicare coverage, it’s important to review it yearly, as things like cost, plans and in-network providers and pharmacies change. Make sure to give yourself plenty of time to review; open enrollment starts October 15 and ends December 7. Do you have questions about Medicare? You’re not alone. Colorado Gerontological Society (CGS) has free seminars and resources available to help you navigate the confusing world of government health insurance. CGS Medicare Monday seminars take place all over the state—see the article for a list of locations.

Volunteer of the Year

Each year, the BEACON honors dedicated volunteers who make our world a better place. Mary Jo St. Jean, the winner of this year’s Volunteer of the Year award, was chosen by BEACON readers who were inspired by her volunteer energy and willingness to help her community. Congratulations, Mary Jo, Rory Ridley and Sandy Longmore for being nominated. We appreciate all you do!

BeaconFest thank you

The Montrose-Delta BeaconFest was a huge hit! Thank you to all our readers, sponsors, volunteers, entertainers, seminar speakers and door prize donors for making this year’s fair a success. See if your photo made it into the paper and which booths attendees chose for the Senior Choice Awards.

Help us honor our veterans

Our November issue tells the stories of local veterans. We know of a few good stories, and could use your help in finding more. Do you know an unsung hero? We’d love to meet them.

Get in the BEACON Guide!

The BEACON Guide is our annual resource directory chock full of local, state and national resources for aging well. This comprehensive guide grows every year as our community welcomes businesses, clubs and organizations that make aging fun and a little easier.

Even though the 2019 guide comes out in December, planning is underway. Do you know of an organization we should include? Pass along their info by calling 243-8828 or email [email protected].
