Do you suffer from depression or chronic pain that western medicine just can’t seem to fix?
Western medicine is great, but it might be worth your time to try something from the other end of the globe.
Millennium Wellness in Cedaredge offers a range of alternative healing practices, including acupuncture, massage therapy, herbalism, homeopathy and essential oils.
“We are seeing really good results in our practice and seeing people get relief,” said Christin Hawbaker, a certified massage therapist who owns the practice with her husband, Timothy, a family nurse practitioner.
Both Hawbakers are licensed acupuncturists and have master’s degrees in traditional Chinese medicine from Five Branches University in Santa Cruz, California. This style of medicine uses acupuncture and holistic herbology to treat the whole person, with roots dating back to ancient times and evolving over thousands of years.
Hawbaker said the majority of patients visit them for acupuncture. This drug-free treatment effectively treats a variety of ailments, including low back pain and seasonal affective disorder (SAD), which can bring about feelings of depression and high anxiety in patients during the dark winter months.
“We also recommend plenty of exercise, getting out in social groups, and taking vitamin D in addition to acupuncture treatments,” said Hawbaker.
Her training in acute and chronic pain management, pediatrics and women’s health issues, general stress disorders, soft tissue injuries and internal medicine compliments her knowledge for treating the whole person. Both she and her husband are also certified ozone and prolozone therapists—two new treatments they recently introduced to the practice.
Ozone is a colorless gas that detoxifies and heals the body by killing bacteria and viruses on contact. It strengthens the immune system by increasing oxygen levels in the cells, reducing inflammation and pain, killing cancer cells, increasing energy and improving circulation. Patients can receive ozone treatments in a sauna with ozone-infused steam, drinking ozonated water or using ozone insufflation bags.
It has also been found to decrease acidity, heal gout and successfully treat acid reflux and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
Prolozone injection therapy is an alternative to steroid injections without the harmful side effects. It involves a series of injections containing a homeopathic solution mixed with ozone to help rebuild joints and reduce and even cure chronic pain.
“Prolozone injection therapy is a nice option for people who are not candidates for surgery,” said Hawbaker. “It’s especially effective bringing relief to major joints, such as knees, shoulders and hips and really relieves plantar fasciitis.”
With an 85 percent success rate, prolozone therapy is also used to treat arthritis, injury trauma, tendonitis, sprains, partially torn ligaments and tendons, herniated or bulging discs, sciatica and carpal tunnel syndrome.
