Have fun, shoot safe at Rocky Mountain Gun Club
Rocky Mountain Gun Club (RMGC) is Western Colorado’s largest, most advanced public indoor shooting facility. Located at 545 31 Road in Grand Junction, the locally owned club opened five years ago, filling a need for local law enforcement and community members wanting to hone their shooting and archery skills.
With over 46,000 square feet, RMGC has 14 pistol lanes, a second bay with six tactical lanes for rifles, and a bay with 18 archery lanes. Upstairs are classrooms that qualifiedinstructors use for training and educational courses for members and nonmembers, and a tactical simulator for training law enforcement officers and anyone who wants to sharpen their skills without actually shooting guns.
“Our main focus is to be a safe facility,” said General Manager Sabra O’ Crotty. “There’s more to the club than meets the eye.”
Beyond the range
The club offers a large selection of rental equipment and has 6,000 square feet of retail space for a Firearms Pro Shop and a separate Archery Pro shop with top-of-the-line merchandise. Instructors are also on hand to help newcomers determine what equipment is right for them. Shoppers can also see what’s available online at www.shop.rmgcgj.com.RMGC’s Shoot House is used by law enforcement officers for active shooter training scenarios. It also doubles as a fun party idea for grandkids using Nerf guns.
Member perks
Non-members can enjoy many of the club’s amenities at reasonable rates. Range fees start at just $15.
But by becoming members, the club’s frequent users receive exclusive member benefits. Members pay no lane fees and can expect to get discounts on retail merchandise, training and gunsmith services. They also have access to the lounge, classroom space, patio and tactical simulator.
Apart from enjoying personal use of the range, members can entertain visiting family and friends at a reduced rate or with guest passes.
Calling all ladies!
The club is very senior-friendly, attracting many boomer members.
“Fifty percent of the membership are seniors,” said RMGC Event Coordinator Terre Fry.
Shooting sports are becoming more and more popular with the ladies. Frye said the percentage of women club members increased from 3 percent to 19 percent in 2019! This is partly due to the exclusive benefits offered to ladies, such as ladies-only Concealed Carry training and several ladies-only events with $5 range fees, free gun rental and target with the purchase of ammunition.
