My first concert put on by Community Concerts of the Grand Valley (CCGV) was the 3 Redneck Tenors in 2017. I was amazed to see men with such vocal prowess dressed in tuxedos from the waist up and cutoff shorts below. And they were funny, too. It was like the men from Duck Dynasty had arrived at Carnegie Hall. It was then I realized then that you don’t have to drive far to experience world-class music. 

Although Grand Junction High School’s auditorium is no Carnegie Hall, it served CCGV artists and community members well for years. When the COVID pandemic canceled the last three shows of the organization’s 75th season, it allowed time for its leaders to regroup and come up with new ways of enhancing the experience for their loyal patrons, many of whom are seniors.

Upcoming concerts

• September 20 - The season kicks off with Ted Vigil singing some of John Denver’s greatest hits.  

• October 8 - Sisters Nika, Natalie and Nicole Taylor dazzle audiences with their fiery red hair and exquisite harmony in their country-pop band Taylor Red. The identical triplets bring their pure infectious energy to the stage while performing songs inspired by artists such as Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, The Eagles and Tom Petty. 

• January 13 - America’s Got Talent alumni Sons of Serendip kick off 2022 with their CCGV debut. While their visit isn’t serendipitous—in fact, it’s long-awaited after their 2020 appearance was canceled—their melodies are. This Billboard-charting quartet is known for their fresh interpretations of popular music with unique instrumentation, using harp, piano, cello and voice. 

• February 27 - The Diamonds you knew from the ’50s-’60s perform their classic harmonies in a brand new program called “Let’s Rock Broadway!” This show features hits from your favorite Broadway musicals, including “Jersey Boys,” “Grease,” “Mamma Mia” and “Motown,” along with their signature hits, “Silhouettes,” “The Stroll” and “Little Darlin’.” 

• April 28 - Louis Prima Jr. and his band wail into the 2020s with a combination of original songs and his father’s famous hits. 

• May 7 - Ready! Steady! Go! on a rollicking romp through the wonders of Elton John’s and Bernie Taupin’s incredible music-making, performed by Jim Witter’s Crocodile Rock.
