"What’s one of your favorite family traditions?"

Mesa County

Sue Hughey - Grand Junction

“Besides the traditional dinner of turkey, stuffing, and pumpkin pie, my two sons, their significant others and I get out the family albums and laugh and remember the good times we’ve had.”

Angela Ingle - Grand Junction

“Before dinner we all stand, hold hands and give the blessing. Then we take turns telling the things we’re thankful for.”

Cliff Kramer - Grand Junction

“I love getting together with my kids. We have the traditional Thanksgiving dinner, with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie.”

Janet Popish - Grand Junction

“After Thanksgiving dinner we make ornaments for Christmas. One year we made owls out of pompoms, and last year we made snow globes out of inverted wine glasses and little figurines.”

Susan Metzger - Palisade

“My great-aunt gave awful presents and one year she gifted someone with a hideous Christmas bangle bracelet. We secretly passed it around for about 10 years.”

Montrose-Delta Counties

Johnnie and Sandra Gray - Montrose

“Our favorite family tradition is having Saturday morning waffles whenever our five children are home for a visit. Their laughter and chatter fill the room and our hearts with great joy. It’s always beautiful chaos and the smell of waffles fills the house with floods of childhood laughter.”

Linda McCone - Paonia

“My husband and I’ve been married for 33 years and every year we get a special tree ornament to add to our unique collection of memories. Our most recent one was from Lake Charlevoix, Michigan. It takes us a while to decorate our Christmas tree, because we relive each year one ornament at a time.”

“We are a card-playing and gambling family! When we get together we play Hand & Foot cards and gamble 25 cents per game. When we have enough money, we take our winnings and go out to dinner. It’s our way of sharing fun times.”

Floyd and Jean Pederson - Montrose

“We’re newlyweds so we haven’t really established a favorite family tradition. Last year was our first traditional holiday together as husband and wife and we enjoyed making cookies and sharing them. We’ll be newlyweds forever—that will be our legacy.”
