Palisade “Grouch,” local vet celebrates 104th birthday

William Floryancic celebrated his 104th birthday with friends and family at the Veterans Community Living Center in Grand Junction. The Army vet was born in Salida on March 9, 1918, married Lillian Ruth Jenkins in 1941 and had two children, Paul and Karen. He worked at Bancroft Grocery in Palisade for several years before purchasing it in 1958 and changing the name to Bill’s Market. He also had two service stations in Grand Junction. On December 12, 1992, he married Lucille Phillips Hampton. Floryancic was very involved in the Palisade community. He was voted its very first “Town Grouch” in 1985.
