For nearly two years, not a day went by that I didn’t use the words “pandemic,” “virus” or “COVID.” While COVID will still be present for years to come, it’s a relief that such terms no longer dominate everyday conversations. 

This time last year, we saw an uptick in events, but even then live music—a big draw for most summer events—still wasn’t what it was pre-COVID. Many acts delayed tours and rescheduled concert dates another year out. 

Fortunately, we still had local music, but the handful of concerts I attended was a sharp contrast from my normally packed summer schedule. With all the bands that my husband and I had planned to see in 2020, only two pairs of tickets were worth holding onto with the hope that concerts would soon return. One show is in Denver, and the other is in Chicago.

Now that live music is back, I’m looking forward to cashing in my tickets and going somewhere new (I’ve never been to Chicago). But with rising gas prices and airfare, it won’t be cheap.

I was a fair-skinned, freckle-covered red-head as a kid. Unfortunately, many of these features still apply, meaning I know the extent of the sun’s damage all too well. When adventuring this summer, be mindful of your sun exposure, bring a hat and sunblock, and take Vitamin D daily.

Back for its 21st year, Western Colorado Senior Games is an opportunity for you to have fun in the sun…and some friendly competition. Choose from more than 50 competitive events, ranging from pickleball to golf, and pinochle to bowling. This year’s games are just around the corner: August 22-28. Father’s Day is June 19. Spend the day with Dad, give him a hug, buy him a beer or take him to a concert (where you can usually do all of the above).
