David and Cindy Starr deed the Art Garage to the Grand Mesa Arts and Events Center

The Grand Mesa Arts and Events Center (GMAEC) in Cedaredge received an unexpected “forever gift” in July when David and Cindy Starr deeded the Art Garage to the center. The building houses GMAEC’s pottery studio and hosts art classes for adults and children. The Starrs had been leasing the Art Garage to the center with a buy-out scheduled for 2029. Their gift eliminated lease payments and erased the need to raise $275,000 to purchase the property. Founders of GMAEC in 2017, the Starrs have supported the center with gifts ranging from the Starr Family Gallery to the Starr’s Guitars Stage and other facilities. Their philanthropy also helped launch Youth Empowerment Through the Arts (YEA!), which offers free classes and activities for local youth. To ensure long-term sustainability, the Starrs are challenging the community to match their $275,000 gift with donations to GMAEC’s Endowment Funds.
