Explore history and science at Gear Up bike exhibition
Museums of Western Colorado’s newest traveling exhibition, “GEAR UP: The Science of Bikes” runs through January 3, 2026.
Developed by Carnegie Science Center and produced with the Sciencenter, GEAR UP blends history, science and culture through an engaging collection of historic and unusual bicycles. Visitors can see a Victorian Penny Farthing, a 1970s Huffy Banana Seat bike, an ADA Adaptive Bike and even a square-wheeled bicycle. Interactive stations let guests generate electricity, test brake materials, race aerodynamic shapes and explore light and color.
This exhibit requires an additional ticket beyond general admission. Tickets are $14 for adults ages 16 to 59, $13 for seniors 60 and older and military or veterans, and $12 for children ages 3 to 15.
An Experience Pass, valid for one week and including entry to all three museum sites—Museum of the West, Dinosaur Journey and Cross Orchards Historic Site—plus the traveling exhibition, is available for $24 for adults; $21 for seniors, students and military; and $18 for children.
