Fruita launches asphalt art program with colorful murals

Fruita has introduced a new Asphalt Art Program that uses colorful street murals to improve traffic safety, create walkable spaces and strengthen community identity.

Across the country, asphalt art has been shown to slow vehicle speeds, improve pedestrian crossings and encourage people to spend more time in painted areas.

City officials say these low-cost projects not only make intersections safer but also create landmarks where residents gather and support local businesses.

Fruita’s first project, a mural of aspen leaves drifting across water at Peach and Aspen Streets, reflects the character of the neighborhood and sets the stage for future community-designed installations.
