Where to Dance, Where to Meet People—and What to Know Before You Do

Feb 03, 2026 01:14PM ● By Cloie Sandlin

At various points throughout the year, we get two frequently asked questions from readers: Where can I go to dance? And where do I go to meet people?

Those questions do not always pop up in February, but with Valentine’s Day around the corner, it felt like the right time to ask your advice on the first one.

In Grand Junction, one of the top recommendations we hear is the Moose Lodge. The catch is that you must be a member or be accompanied by one. The Grand Junction Senior Recreation Center is another option, though many dances are held earlier in the day.

In Montrose and Delta, readers tell us the Montrose Senior Center is hands down the best place to dance, with weekend dances from 7-10 p.m. on the second and fourth Saturdays. The Grand Junction and Montrose’s recreation districts also offer line dancing classes with a drop-in option.

Either way, the bigger point is this: even if opportunities to dance feel limited, opportunities to meet people are not.

And I mean in real life, not online. That is where I want to add one important caution: Romance scams are growing right along with online dating, and they can happen to anyone. The best defense is knowledge, so please, no matter how smart you think you are, read the advice from the experts at the Grand Junction Police Department on page 29.

GET YOUR FREE GUIDE TO AGING WELL

Now I have an answer to the second question: Where do you go to meet people? Start with the BEACON Guide.

This annual resource for aging well is chock full of verified contacts for local clubs, volunteer opportunities, hobby groups and more. Last month, we released our Mesa County edition, and inside this issue, readers in Montrose and Delta counties will find the guide created just for them.

The 2026 BEACON Guide also includes hundreds of verified listings for retirement planners, physicians, home health providers and more. If you are in Montrose or Delta and are missing your Guide, or would like extra copies, call 970-243-8829.
