Meals on Wheels Mesa County will transition to a new sponsoring organization April 18, when Volunteers of America (VOA) Colorado takes over the program from Intermountain Health St. Mary’s Regional Hospital. St. Mary’s has sponsored the program for more than 35 years and will donate $250,000 over the next five years to support the program’s long-term sustainability during the transition. Today, Meals on Wheels Mesa County delivers about 136,000 meals each year through home delivery and eight dining sites. VOA Colorado provided more than 2.2 million meals last year and offers housing and veteran services in western Colorado. All current Meals on Wheels employees will have the opportunity to transition to VOA Colorado, and volunteers are encouraged to continue serving.
