Grand Valley veterans cemeteries move to reusable wreaths

May 05, 2026 10:33AM ● By Debbie Van Dyke

The 2025 Christmas wreath program was completed successfully thanks to the generosity of donors and volunteers across the Grand Valley and Western Slope. Beginning in 2026, the program will transition to artificial wreaths due to rising costs and other factors involved in bringing wreaths to local cemeteries. The Veterans Memorial Cemetery Foundation will oversee the program, and artificial wreaths will be purchased through a grant and reused each year to help reduce expenses. Families with a loved one interred during the year may purchase a wreath for $8. Volunteers will still be needed to help place wreaths in December and collect them in January at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery and Old Veterans Cemetery on Orchard Mesa.
