Mesa Feed Mart: Seeds and feed for birds, pets and everything in between

Apr 01, 2019 03:19PM ● By Beacon Senior News

Kathy Singer joked that “if it eats, we can feed it.”

Singer is the managing owner of Mesa Feed Mart, which carries supplies to feed everything from humans (they carry garden seeds) to exotic pets such as macaws.

Locally owned and operated since 1968, Singer said Mesa Feed Mart prides itself on maintaining a small-town sense of service while keeping up with feed knowledge and trends people desire from present times.

Customers can expect their purchases to be carried to their cars. Those unable to drive to Mesa Feed Mart, 520 S. Ninth St. in Grand Junction, can have orders delivered for a fee. In addition, those uncomfortable getting out of their vehicle to go inside the store can call and have their purchase brought out at no charge.

“We run it more like an old-time business where we try to be really friendly,” Singer said.

But service is not the only thing Mesa Feed Mart is known for.

Singer said most BEACON readers come in for birdseed. Mesa Feed Mart makes more than a dozen blends of birdseed in-house. The most popular varieties are used to feed wild birds from backyard feeders and come in bags as large as 50 pounds.

The store also carries poultry feed, including duck food much healthier for the bird than the stale white bread sometimes tossed to domestic flocks.

For household pets, customers can expect to find an array of dog and cat food, including a large selection of Victor brand dog food, a label Singer said is, “five-star dog food at mid-range prices.”

Recently, Singer noted, Mesa Feed Mart has started carrying CBD salves and tinctures for people, as well as a CBD liquid for animals. The products are known to help with pain and anxiety. Singer can answer more questions customers may have about CBD use. One of the things Singer is most proud of is how local Mesa Feed Mart has been around for 50 years. To further highlight that, the store carries locally made non-feed items such as egg-carrying aprons from Mistie Rickard of Mistie Design Creations and soaps, bath salts and other products from Soap Woman Soapery’s Rita Hoback. Both women are from Grand Junction.

One thing that should come as no surprise: no need to leave your animal friends at home.

“We are pet-friendly,” Singer said.

Mesa Feed Mart also sells pelleted feed for farm animals, fertilizer and more.
